Congenital Anomalies

Syndactyly (conjoined finger)

Syndactyly is when two or more fingers are stuck together. During pregnancy, when the hands and feet are first formed, all the fingers are attached to each other. In the later stages of pregnancy, the fingers are separated from each other as a result of the regression of the tissue connections between the fingers. The disruptions that will occur during this period of development prevent the separation of the fingers and cause syndactyly. They can be seen between the fingers and toes. Adhesion can only be on the skin or skin + bone. The treatment is surgery.

Polydaacty (Extra Fingers)

The excessive number of fingers or toes is called polydactyly. The treatment is surgery. It is recommended to perform surgical treatment after the age of one, as soon as medical conditions are suitable.

Cleft Lip and Palate (Rabbit Lip)

In the first weeks of development, long before the child is born, the left and right edges of the lip and the palate are formed together. However, normal intercourse does not occur in approximately one in 1,000 babies. Because the lip and palate develop separately, cleft lip and palate can be seen in various variations. If your child was born with such a deformity, your doctor will recommend surgical repair for treatment. Significant advances have been made in the treatment of children born with cleft lip and palate, and there are no obstacles for most of you to lead a normal, healthy and happy life.

The treatment for cleft lip and palate is surgery. The ideal operation time is 6-10 weeks for cleft lip and 3-12 months for cleft palate. However, it is absolutely necessary for the success of the surgery to be examined by a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and to follow the recommendations of your doctor for the treatments that can be done in preparation for the surgery by evaluating the cleft in the lip or palate after the birth.

Torticolis (Bended Neck)

On either side of the neck is a muscle called the sternocleidomastoid (SCM). This muscle has an important function in the right-left movements of the neck. If this muscle is damaged for any reason, there may be an increase in fluid and pressure in that area as the body tries to repair it. When healing is complete, shortening and stiffness occur in this muscle. This results in the head tilting to the side of the contracting muscle and turning the face to the opposite side. Treatment is surgery and/or FTR.
