Congenital Masses and Lesions

Congenital nevi can occur during birth as well as in the first 6 months of life. Congenital nevi can range in size from a few millimeters to almost the entire body. Their appearance changes with the growth of the child. They may have hair follicles on them. Congenital nevi are initially benign lesions. However, they are more likely to become malignant with advancing age than other nevi. Therefore, they should be followed closely and removed surgically if necessary.

CONGENITAL NEVUS

Hemangiomas can be defined as benign tumors arising from vessels. Hemangiomas are common in girls and premature babies. Approximately 90-95% of hemangiomas regress by the age of 10, and regressed hemangiomas leave no symptoms at all. Therefore, most hemangiomas do not require any treatment. For those who require treatment, different non-surgical treatments come to the fore. Surgery is performed in cases with no results despite everything. Surgery is a part of the treatment, especially in hemangiomas that cause dysfunction, fail to result from other treatments, and progress with frequent bleeding.

HEMANGIOMA

Dermoid cyst is a congenital mass and can be seen in any part of the body. 7% of all dermoid cysts are seen in the head and neck region. Most of them are located around the eyes. They are often found around the eyes, on the outer part of the eyebrows. They are benign masses. However, in some cases, they may extend into the brain. Treatment is surgical removal. If the cyst extends into the brain, it should be followed to the point where it went and all of them should be removed.
