Damage to the facial bones after a fall, traffic accident, or beating is called maxillofacial injury. Fractures of this region can cause facial deformities if left untreated. And also; Fractures in the bones around the eyes can cause limitation of movement in the eye, double vision and even vision loss. Fractures of the lower and upper jaw bones can cause disorders in biting and speech functions. Cheekbone fractures can impede the movement of the jaw. Nasal fractures can cause permanent airway obstruction. For all these reasons, facial fractures are very important and their treatment is mostly surgery.

In order to reach the broken bone in maxillofacial traumas, skin incisions can be made from the mouth, under the eyelashes, around the eyebrows or from the scalp. After reaching the area where the fracture is located, the fracture line is corrected and fixed using a titanium plate-screw or wire. As long as these materials do not cause problems in the human body, they can remain until the end of life, if they cause problems, they may need to be removed with a second surgery. In jaw fractures, the jaw can be fixed by placing wires on the lower and upper jaw before or after surgery. The nerve or other important structures that were cut during the surgery are repaired.
